Beta Beta Beta
Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is an honor society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 200,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 626 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
Ferris State University established its branch - - in 2017. I am currently the faculty advisor for this RSO. More information about the organization can be found on the official Facebook page.
Pre-Dental Club
This is a club for students with a major in Pre-Dentistry, and who are planning on continuing education at a Dental School. However, we are always welcome to have students generally interested in the field of Dentistry attend and participate in our meetings to learn more. I became the faculty advisor for this club upon the retirement of Dr. Mary Murnik. More information about the organization can be found on their official Facebook page.
Big Rapids Chess Club
Although this is not a formal RSO (yet), we have a small and growing number of students, faculty, and other folks that meet regularly to play chess. I have been too busy to play much for the past several months, so Anil Venkatesh in the Math department has been coordinating. This is a very inclusive group and is open to people of abilities. So, if you would like to play (or learn how to play) do not hesitate to contact either Anil or me. Electronic club sites have been set up at:
Although I am a member of USCF, I’m not that strong of a player - I joined USCF primarily to get Chess Life and to help eventually set up a scholastic program at Ferris. I have not yet actually played a rated game, so I have no offical rating. If you would like to play online, I usually go by the handles WeeBeasties or Wee_Beasties (hey, I’m a microbiologist after all).
